Training to become an ACA-Certified Coastal Kayaking Instructor is an excellent way to formalize your own kayaking skills and gain the tools for effectively sharing kayaking with other paddlers. Nate is excited to be partnering with Todd Wright (ACA L5 ITE, BCU L5 Sea, and Director of the Wilderness Program at St. Michael's College in Vermont) and Carl Ladd (ACA L4 ITE, Owner of Osprey Sea Kayak) to offer L3 and L4 Instructor Development Workshops (IDW) at Osprey Sea Kayak in Westport, MA.
In addition, to addressing the core ACA criteria, we'll look at a variety of teaching/instructing/coaching concepts, and processes that are not traditionally part of ACA Instructor Development Workshops and put them into practice. Therefore, this IDW will also make for an informative update for current Instructors and Instructor Trainers. Please keep in mind that these are two separate IDW's, L3 and L4 respectively; each with an independent lead IT and rotating staff. Therefore, content will be focused on the standards and competencies required to instruct within the L3 or L4 venue autonomously, and to prepare you for an ICE. While the training groups are separate, we'll come together for sessions specific to concepts and process, and to encourage the formation of an information sharing network of instructors, and future instructors.
Candidates will leave with refined personal skills, an improved arsenal of instructional tools, and a personalized action plan to prepare for an Instructor Certification Exam (ICE) at a later date.
Please refer to the ACA web page for pre-requisites.
