We are now conducting our Maine Guide Exam preparation course separately from our Leadership training (May 26-29), specifically for sea kayakers with established leadership skills (such as BCU 4-star Award, ACA Instructor Certification, or ACA Trip Leader Certification). Since this course is not held on the water, we will not accept students who cannot demonstrate that they have the paddling and leadership skills required to safely lead a group in coastal Maine. Those who have not had formal sea kayak leadership training, or who would benefit from practical skills training in rescues, trip-planning, group management, etc. are encouraged to join our 4-day Leadership Training, May 26-29.
This classroom-based session will give participants an overview of content covered in the Maine Guide License Exam for Sea Kayaking, and we will review knowledge required of a successful Maine Guide Candidate. Curriculum will be adjusted according to student needs and questions, and we hope to foster a dynamic group-learning environment, where each student is able to contribute their knowledge, and learn from their classmates' strengths. The class will work through sample questions, and we will offer each student a mock-oral exam - in our experience, these mock orals are one of the most important factors in preparing for the Maine Guide Exam. Participation in this class does not guarantee that you will pass the Maine Guide Exam, however, we are proud of our students high first-attempt pass rate over the past 5 years that we have been offering Maine Guide Training.
(This course is not a guide licensing exam. You will not leave with a Maine Guide License. Only the state administers the Licensing Exam, and you must contact them directly to schedule your exam.)
